Celebrating 20 years of MultiCAD!

Did you know MultiCAD first opened its doors back in 2004?
Focusing on serving our clients means it’s easy to forget MultiCAD has been consistently delivering high-quality drawings and models for our clients amid a great deal of industry change.
Staying at the leading-edge of the construction industry
The construction industry has witnessed big changes over the last 20 years. Technological evolution has picked up pace, having started with the initial development of Computer-Aided Design in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
MultiCAD was founded to offer 2D CAD drafting and, establishing a reputation for professional and flexible service, grew steadily. Our director, Richard, was in this for the long term and, in response to the developments in the construction industry, James Duckworth was appointed our BIM manager in 2008. This was only a year after the UK government started developing British Standards for BIM. James’ appointment ensured that our studio could stay ahead of the curve and be in a position to shape industry standards.
Within 5 years, we had a team of 5 permanent CAD staff. Along with a roster of experienced freelance technicians, they served a range of clients from small projects requiring 2D floor plans all the way up to large, public construction projects.
In 2014 we adopted the name MultiCAD, in a rebrand to showcase our multi-disciplinary expertise and global outlook. Demand for 2D CAD was clearly here to stay, alongside the huge improvements in interoperability, co-ordination and profitability that BIM offered for larger construction projects.
Meanwhile, BIM was being adopted worldwide with global standards in development and by 2016, the UK Construction Strategy mandated BIM as a requirement for all centrally procured government projects. MultiCAD continued to upgrade its capacity and capability and was ready to offer a full BIM service to clients in 2020.
Some of our milestones from the last two decades
- 2004: RH-TS Ltd, a 2D drafting bureau, is launched by Richard Huntley as sole director and employee.
- 2007: UK government starts work on designing standards for Building Information Modelling (BIM), aiming to improve information management and profitability for larger, more complex projects.
- 2008: We started offering 3D drawings and James Duckworth joins as BIM Manager, positioning the company ahead of the curve and ready to set industry standards
- 2009: Within 5 years, the company had grown to 5 full time staff, while also working with a roster of trusted freelancers.
- 2014: Rebrand to MultiCAD (with RH-TS Ltd remaining as the holding company) to emphasise multidisciplinary expertise in 2D and 3D drafting, CAD and BIM.
- 2016: Mandated by the UK Construction Strategy, BIM becomes a requirement for all centrally procured UK government projects.
- 2020: MultiCAD starts offering full BIM services, in accordance with the newly created international standards.
- 2024: Still strong in its foundations of 2D drafting, MultiCAD has grown to offer 3D CAD, BIM, laser point scanning (and more), serving clients across the UK and Europe. This year we have started one of our most ambitious projects yet, for the new National Rehabilitation Centre in Nottingham.
